It was a health crisis, which ultimately brought me to lifestyle and health coaching. Before I became a health professional, I was a patient suffering with debilitating illness. I was fierce and determined to be an advocate for my own health, simply because my life depended on it.
I dove into research, studies, articles, talks and books to learn as much as possible and have a chance at a better outcome. Ultimately, I found knowledgeable and informed providers, who uncovered the root cause and took a systems-based approach to get me on the road to reclaiming my health.
While I’ve learned a tremendous amount through my own lived experience, it was extremely important to me to access the best training, follow evidence-based practices and have ongoing access to continuing education.
CERTIFICATION & TRAINING
The program I selected for my health coach training is the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA). One reason it stood out for me, is that is the only program founded in collaboration with The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and fully approved by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).
NBHWC is a nonprofit affiliate of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and sets the standards for a rapidly growing field. In passing the board exam in the summer of 2019, I’ve earned the designation of a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).
